Social Responsibility

Impala takes its social responsibilities extremely seriously, as we rely upon the sentiments of stakeholders and in particular the local communities to create a sustainable and socially responsible business. We strive to create a good and an ever better working environment that provides economic opportunities locally while complying with legal requirements.

We know that our operations have an impact upon communities and regions, and much of that is positive in the form of taxes, jobs, infrastructure development, procurement, and contracting. We also recognise that our operations can have an occasionally intrusive impact and we are constantly working to eliminate or mitigate this.

We see two types of community development initiatives: local and global. Local projects in proximity to our operations are developed and implemented by local management and staff working closely with communities and their representatives on a daily basis.

With global initiatives, Impala works closely with the Trafigura Foundation. Through the development of long-term partnerships, the Trafigura Foundation aims to make a sustainable difference by creating a genuine positive impact on the societies it supports globally.

The projects supported by the Foundation reflect Impala’s corporate values and give our employees the opportunity to develop a broader understanding of our impact as a business and our role in society.

The environment and education are two of the Trafigura Foundation’s main themes, but its initiatives also encompass health and disability topics, rural development, social inclusion, and social entrepreneurship. Occasionally, the Foundation also gets involved in emergency relief and post-disaster recovery activities.
